Nukemobile

A 2260s V-3A nukemobile.

A V-3A was a class of nukemobile, a type of hovercraft used in the 23rd century.

History and specifics[]

The class debuted in 2262.

In 2264, the third diverter system in the nuclear-powered engine was found to be defective, and an alert was released to the public. James T. Kirk read it, but Scott missed it as he had been preoccupied with repairs to a starship intake valve.

Spock and Scott picked up Kirk at Phobos Base and drove him in a V-3A nukemobile to the transporter rendezvous point for the USS Enterprise, where he would shortly assume command. En route, the groundcar's coolant coils overheated. Kirk realized the diverter was probably at fault, but Scott doubted him until Kirk mentioned the warning statement. Scott was then able to repair the vehicle.

Afterward, as a gesture of friendship, Scott fashioned a medal for Kirk out of a V-3A diverter. (TOS comic: "Captain James T. Kirk: Psycho-File")
