Vacuum desiccation is a method used to remove all moisture from animal remains, and to reduce those remains to a powder-like substance.

Vacuum desiccation was used in Ferengi culture on the bodies of the deceased, after which the end product was divided into small disks and sold. (DS9 episodes: "The Nagus", "The Alternate", "Body Parts")

After his death, Flynk's body was vacuum desiccated and sold on the Desiccated Collectibles Market. (DS9 novel: Legends of the Ferengi)
