The Vanguard-class was a type of transport starship in service to Earth Starfleet and Federation Starfleet in the mid-to-late 22nd century. (TOS reference: Spaceflight Chronology)
Service history[]
The Vanguard-class had a crew of 94 and a mass of nearly 250,000 tons. It entered service on reference stardate 0/9204. Just under 1600 were constructed for military and commercial use. They remained in service until reference stardate 1/28. (TOS reference: Spaceflight Chronology, FASA RPG module: The Romulan War)
- Both Spaceflight Chronology and the FASA RPG use a timeline in which the Romulan War occurred nearly 20 years after the foundation of the Federation, with the Vanguard-class being a ship of the Federation Starfleet. However, Star Trek: Enterprise later canonically placed the Romulan War shortly before foundation, 2155–2160. Adapting the Vanguard-class to this chronology suggests that it began as an Earth Starfleet vessel, entering service c. 2151.
