Vanity transporter

An ancient vanity transporter.

A vanity transporter is a type of unnamed transporter technology used in the 23rd century. It was not used as a means of transportation, but for altering one's appearance.

History and specifics[]

A vanity transporter reassembles the body of a person's atomic matrix into any desired shape without replacing their memories. Such a system was developed on Triangularis III, and was in use when James T. Kirk visited that planet in 2267 or 2268.

It had also been invented by an ancient civilization on another planet, and an operational model with one transporter pad was discovered there by Ronald Tracey in 2268. After purchasing a copy of Kirk's molecular structure from Triangularis natives, Tracey used the vanity transporter to change Harry Mudd into an identical double of Kirk. Tracey claimed he could not use the device on himself because it required manual operation. Unfortunately, Tracey did not save Mudd's molecular pattern, either deliberately or from lack of familiarity with the equipment, leaving Mudd permanently altered. (TOS - New Visions comic: "Made Out of Mudd")
