Vara Tal was a female Trill reporter for the Trill newsmagazine Seeker in the mid 24th century.

In 2379, Tal was on planet Tezwa, covering the political unrest there following the ouster of Prime Minister Kinchawn. During her time there, she interviewed numerous doctors and medics, including Starfleet Doctor Dennis Chimelis. She was killed when Kinchawn loyalists blew up the runabout USS Tsavo during a hospital evacuation.

Fellow Seeker reporter Ozla Graniv later went to Tezwa, in part, to honor Tal's death. (ST novel: Articles of the Federation)

The events on Tezwa were established in A Time to Heal, though this character was not identified in that book.
