Vekma was a Klingon officer serving under Captain Kargan aboard the IKS Pagh in the year 2365. Her interest in the limits of human endurance led her to proposition Commander William T. Riker during his service onboard the Klingon ship. (TNG episode: "A Matter of Honor")
Biography[]
By 2376 she had been promoted to the position of first officer of the IKS Kreltek, under command of Captain Triak. When Captain Klag of the IKS Gorkon summoned members of the Order of the Bat'leth to San-Tarah to defend a pledge honorably given to its inhabitants, the Kreltek's primary Helm officer, Lieutenant Hevna requested that the ship answer the summons. Triak, contemptuous of both Klag and the Order, refused. Vekma, having more respect for both, challenged Triak and defeated him, becoming captain and joining Klag's forces in the ensuing battle. The Kreltek suffered major damage engaging the IKS Taj. Klag's side carried the day, a result that was confirmed by Chancellor Martok upon his arrival. Aboard the Taj in the wake of their side's defeat, the first officer challenged and killed the captain but sustained fatal injuries himself. Given that the Kreltek would need major repairs and the Taj lacked a commanding officer, Martok awarded the Taj to Vekma. (GKN novel: Honor Bound)
In 2379, the Taj was among a fleet of cloaked vessels sent with ten Klingon cruisers to Tezwa. All Klingon ships, except the Taj were destroyed in the initial battle over the planet while the Taj was saved when the USS Enterprise-E towed her away from the battle. When Commander Riker boarded the Taj, Vekma was the only survivor. She was upset that Riker had denied her death in battle and therefore her entrance to Sto-vo-Kor. She cursed Riker and his house and spat on him with her dying breath. (TNG - A Time to... novel: A Time to Kill)
- Vekma was also a playable character in the Star Trek Customizable Card Game.
