Velociraptor

A holographic raptor.

A velociraptor was type of clever, bipedal, highly-aggressive dinosaur native to Earth millions of years ago.

Specifics[]

Velociraptors were known for having bladed teeth, large claws, eyes that faced forward, and a larger brain than the average dinosaur. Animal species included the 4-foot tall troodontid, the 10-foot deinonychus, and the 20-foot utahraptor. They tended to hunt in groups. (TOS novel: Final Frontier)

Its huge claws were as effective as metal daggers. (Last Unicorn RPG module: TOS Core Game Book)

Its tapered head was similar to the shape of the Russth sub-species of Gorn. (Adventures RPG module: Beta Quadrant Sourcebook)

History[]

Gorn Doctor Shenti Yisec Eres Ree's head and body resembled those of a velociraptor. (TTN novel: Fallen Gods, ST - Typhon Pact novel: Seize the Fire)

In 2381, a holographic raptor threatened Brad Boimler, Sam Rutherford, D'Vana Tendi, T'Lyn, and The Dog aboard the USS Cerritos. The animal was part of a Sherlock Holmes-style trap set up by the evil artificial intelligence Badgey. The raptor was programmed to attack anyone in Holmsian attire. Luckily the four ensigns were able to subdue it. When it revived, it tracked them to the shuttle bay, but the ensigns had figured out how they were being tracked, and gave their outfits to Asif and Karavitus. (LD video game: The Badgey Directive event: "Elementary")

In 2423, Kasidy Yates recalled a challenging baseball game in 2389 between the Pike City Pioneers and the S’Yahazah City Talons, a Gorn team, which she compared to playing against velociraptors. (STO novel: The Needs of the Many)

Alternate realities[]

In the mirror universe aboard the USS Defiant in 2155, a reptilian left a bite mark on an ensign with a bite radius suggesting it was taller than two meters. Phlox thought it unlikely that a velociraptor was aboard, despite Malcolm Reed suggesting it might have been a crewman's pet. (ENT episode: "In a Mirror, Darkly")

In an alternate timeline created when an asteroid was diverted 65 million years ago, preventing the extinction of the dinosaurs on Earth, the USS Enterprise encountered several species of velociraptor on Earth in the 2260s decade. (TOS novel: First Frontier)
