Ven Kaldarren was a male Betazoid in the 24th century, the son of Molaranna Kaldarren. Kaldarren was a xenoarchaeologist, and received his post-graduate degree from the Tarkava Institute on B'Utu Aura.

In 2316, Kaldarren was part of a group of Betazoid xenoarchaeologists invited to the Federation Archaeology Council symposium on Rigel III. They were transported there aboard the USS Argos, where Kaldarren met a Human Starfleet Lieutenant named Rachel Garrett. The two fell in love and were married soon after. In 2324, they had a son, Jason Garrett. (ST - The Lost Era novel: Well of Souls)

By 2328, their marriage had become troubled. (ST - The Lost Era novel: The Art of the Impossible) They divorced in 2333, and Kaldarren took custody of their son. He continued in his career, bringing Jason along on several archaeological trips, including one to the Valley of the Kings on Earth in 2335.

In 2336, Kaldarren embarked on a mission to an unnamed planet near Cardassian space, which was believed to be the home of a pre-Hebitian culture, and also the rumored site of an interdimensional portal. The mission was led by Su Chen-Mai, a mercenary in the employ of the Asfar Qatala, who Kaldarren presented to his son as a former classmate at the Tarkava Institute. While there, Jason and a young Naxeran boy, Pahl, discovered an ancient tomb known as the Well of Souls, inhabited by non-corporeal lifeforms calling themselves dithparu, or Night Spirit. Kaldarren prevented the dithparu leader, Uramtali, from possessing Pahl by allowing it to possess him instead, and then letting himself be buried alive within the tomb. (ST - The Lost Era novel: Well of Souls)
