The Venture-class was a class of cruiser used by both the Federation Starfleet and the Imperial Starfleet in the 2400s. It was a refit variant of the venerable Galaxy-class. Refit options for the Venture-class starship included a dreadnought variant equipped with three warp nacelles. (ST video game: Star Trek Online)

Specifications[]

The Venture-class was larger than the Galaxy-class, but its modular design meant that large sections of its structure could be swapped with the Galaxy and other variants such as the Monarch, Celestial, Envoy, and Galaxy X-classes.

It had the ability to fire an antimatter spread to confuse opponents' sensor arrays, making determining friend from foe difficult for short periods.

The Venture-class was introduced in 2409 as the exploration cruiser refit, an upgrade for the existing exploration cruiser classes. Officers with the rank of captain were best suited to command this tier 4 starship. The exploration cruiser retrofit was a tier 5 ship that required a minimum rank of vice admiral. Another tier 5 variant was the three-nacelled dreadnought cruiser, which consisted of only two starship classes, the Venture- and Galaxy X-classes. The minimum rank to command a Venture-class dreadnought cruiser was one star admiral. (ST video game: Star Trek Online)

Livery[]

In the 25th century, the design of the Venture-class exploration cruiser refit allowed its commanding officer to choose from different designs of livery, which could be modified further at starbases. These options were designated Type 1-6 and Veteran. (STO - Klingon War mission: "Welcome to Earth Spacedock")

Furthermore, the installation of deflector shields from specific factions modified the hull appearance, including shields from the Reman Resistance, the Breen Confederacy and the Dominion. (STO missions: "Coliseum", "Cold Storage", "Boldly They Rode")

The Venture-class was named for the USS Venture, a Galaxy-class vessel that served with distinction during the Dominion War. (ST video game: Star Trek Online)

Ships of this class were also sighted under the command of the Terran Empire. (STO - Cardassian Struggle mission: "Tear of the Prophets")

Also in 2409, the Andromeda-class entered service as another successor to the Galaxy class, and was itself based on the Venture class. (STO Issue 03: "U.S.S. Andromeda NCC-92100")

The design aesthetic, including deflector dish assembly, sloping neck, and warp nacelles, were replicated on ships of other classes:

In the year 2410, the Venture, under the command of Captain Rebecca Simmons and accompanied by scientist and Borg expert Doctor Eric Cooper, was part of one-star admiral Tuvok's task force entering fluidic space through a quantum singularity in the Kuda system. During the investigation, the Venture was destroyed, Simmons assimilated by the Borg, and Cooper replaced by the Undine psy master "Eric Cooper". (STO - Borg Advance mission: "Fluid Dynamics")
