The Viators were an alien civilization that existed in ancient history, possibly up to billions of years ago by some theoretical accounts.

History and specifics[]

The Viators existed with a dangerous intelligence and capability for genetic destabilization, telepathic contact and consciousness transference.

In the 24th century, early in the 2370s decade, Kovold of the Klingon Academy cadet training squadron First Cadre was on an archaeological expedition with First Cadre leader Murg. They discovered a Viator artifact that was possessed of the capability for genetic destabilization. Murg's genetic structure was warped and he deformed into a twisted mutant mass, and Kovold was driven insane.

In the year 2374, Kovold warned Pava of the Viator threat after a clash between First Cadre and their rival Starfleet Academy training group Omega Squad. Kovold believed using the corona of the Rejak star was the only way to destroy Murg and the artifact, and his death would protect others from his telepathic contact with the Viators adding to the coming threat.

Kovold stated that he could hear the Viators in his mind and that they were going to come to find those that discovered the artifact.

Over a decade later, Captain Edam Astrun telepathically told Cadet Fatimah Goldstein the story of the Rejak encounter, and said that some months later the Viators came for a disastrous confrontation with Omega Squad. (SA comic: "Between Love and Hate")

Since the Starfleet Academy series ended with this cliffhanger, there was no resolution to the intentions or nature of the Viator threat. Since Fatimah had previously been portrayed as the alternate timeline daughter of Kamilah Goldstein, who died several issues earlier, it stands to reason that some aspect of the Viator genetic abilities or telepathic transference allowed for a resurrection of sorts to occur and for Fatimah to be born, or that the epilogue (or Fatima's origin) took place in an alternate reality. Given the epilogue's portrayal of Fatimah as a teenage cadet, this part of the story would have had to have taken place in the 2390s decade.
