"Victims of Deceit" is a Star Trek: Deep Space Nine comic that was written by Mark A. Altman. It was published in 1995. It was the third part of a three part story, The Maquis: Soldier of Peace.

Description[]

Gul Dulcet, the Cardassian commander, and a protege of Gul Dukat, has plans for Garak and no use for Bashir, Sisko, and the Maquis. Injured trying to help a wounded prisoner, Bashir finds himself in the infirmary where he learns that Tessa is a doctor and has cooperated with the Cardassians because they have promised to release her brother, a member of Chakotay's Maquis crew, whom the Cardassians claim to have captured. Bashir escapes and frees the others, just as Kira arrives in the Defiant. Dulcet and Tessa escape. Tessa discovers she has made a fatal mistake, and Dulcet learns that trusting Dukat may have fatal consequences as well.

Summary[]

Bashir has been detained by the Cardassians in the Goka prisoner camp, after he, Maquis leader Tessa Blake and her soldiers were caught trying to rescue the crews of Voyager and Chakotay’s ship. Commander Sisko and Garak attempt to rescue Bashir but they too are captured by the soldiers of Gul Dulcet, the overseer of the camp. Everything that has happened was engineered to get revenge on Garak, for Dulcet it is for Garak’s role in his fall from grace due to a scandal on Bajor during the Occupation, although Garak realises that Dukat is the mastermind.

Bashir is being treated in the camp’s medical facility after being wounded by a Cardassian soldier. Tessa, who is working with Dulcet, is able to treat Bashir’s injuries as she is a doctor too. Tessa denies that she is a double agent and she is only working with Dulcet as her brother was aboard Chakotay’s ship and Dulcet claims to be holding him prisoner in a penal colony in the Gelvor system. Bashir incapacitates Tessa with a hypospray and frees Sisko, Garak and the others. The Maquis soldiers engage the Cardassian soldiers, but Garak is transported aboard a shuttle with Dulcet and Tessa, who is shot dead by Dulcet.

Major Kira and Lieutenant Dax arrive on the Defiant and proceed to rescue Sisko, Bashir and the Maquis soldiers from the camp before it is destroyed by thalmerite charges. Dulcet brings Garak to Dukat on Cardassia, but their actions have been revealed to the Central Command and Dulcet is himself arrested. He vows to get revenge on Garak and Dukat.

Bashir reveals to Tessa’s compatriot Anderson that Tessa is dead. Anderson is still committed to the Maquis cause to take on the Cardassians, but Bashir points out that it was a Cardassian that saved them. This gives Bashir hope.

Log entries[]

Personal log, Major Kira Nerys reporting.
It's been over two days since Commander Sisko and Garak left the station in hopes of finding Dr. Bashir. We are told Bashir is being held at a Cardassian prison camp with the Maquis renegades who kidnapped him. We have heard nothing from the commander and I am bound by his orders to do nothing — or tell Starfleet. For the moment, all I can do is wait… and worry.
