The Vidiians were a civilization in the Delta Quadrant. The primary government of the Vidiian people was the Vidiian Sodality.
History[]
The Vidiians were once a proud race in the Delta Quadrant, that was known for its arts and culture. (ST reference: The Visual Dictionary)
The Vidiians were once, as a whole, redefined and afflicted by a horrific degenerative disease known as the phage 2,000 years ago. Their entire technological base, resources and government, the Vidiian Sodality, was centered around medicine and the prolongation of life, as their bodies failed and new transplants and procedures were required to keep them alive. Hostile portions of Vidiian culture became aggressive, despite being opposed to violence, in the pursuit of new ways to stave off the phage, often harvesting organs from unwilling donors and performing horrific medical experiments on outsiders they encountered. (VOY episodes: "Phage", "Faces", "Deadlock", "Lifesigns", "Fury"; ST reference: The Visual Dictionary)
By the beginning of the 2380s decade, the Vidiians had rid themselves of the phage. (TNG novel: Q & A)
Kurros of the Delta Quadrant Think Tank took credit for finding the cure, as he was explaining his credentials to Kathryn Janeway in the year 2375. (VOY episode: "Think Tank")
After the cure for the Phage was found, the Vidiians found themselves under sustained attack by enemies seeking revenge for their actions. (VOY - Dark Matters novel: Shadow of Heaven)
Alternate timeline[]
In an alternate timeline, the cure for the phage was found, thanks to the combined efforts of the Doctor and Denara Pel. While it would take a long time for them to repair their civilization, the grateful Vidiians nevertheless offered the crew of the USS Voyager protection if they ever returned to that part of space. (VOY - Myriad Universes - Infinity's Prism novella: Places of Exile)
