A violet was a type of plant lifeform originating on the planet Earth, an edible flower named for its violet color.

Violets were mentioned in a scene in Henry V by William Shakespeare. (TNG episode: "The Defector")

Violets grew in the USS Enterprise's botany lab. S'Talon examined one of the violets during his visit there in 2267. (TOS novel: Web of the Romulans)
