Spock and Data concert

Data playing the violin.

The violin or fiddle was a stringed musical instrument from the planet Earth. Several Starfleet officers, such as Lieutenant Commander Data and Lieutenant JG Brad Boimler, were skilled in playing the violin. (TNG episode: "Elementary, Dear Data"; LD episode: "Temporal Edict")

According to Sethan the violin was often compared to the Vulcan ka'athyra, but this comparison was incorrect. (TOS novel: Dwellers in the Crucible)

In the year 2366, Geordi La Forge went on a date with Christy Henshaw, and used the holodeck computer to simulate a gypsy violinist to play for her. (TNG episode: "Booby Trap")

In 2367, Ambassador Spock, playing a ka'athyra, and Lieutenant Commander Data, playing the violin, performed a concert aboard the USS Enterprise-D. (TNG - The Modala Imperative comic: "Lies and Legends!")
