Vonda Figgs was a 23rd century Human woman. She served in Starfleet as a yeoman aboard the Federation starship USS Enterprise in the 2260s under the command of Captain James T. Kirk.
Biography[]
Figgs grew up on a corn farm in Springfield, Missouri. Her two brothers encouraged her to follow her dreams and join Starfleet. She enjoyed playing billiards and was highly self-motivated.
Daunted by Starfleet Academy's challenging entry requirements in science and mathematics, she enlisted instead, enrolling in a training program to become a crewman. She impressed her trainers by pushing herself above and beyond.
In 2267, she was not yet in her early 20s, but she passed her training and was stationed aboard the Enterprise as a yeoman. Shortly afterward, she was assigned to her first landing party assignment, a survey of the unexplored planet Hydra Epsilon III. The group split into three teams: Figgs and security guard Rojas; Commander Spock and guard Klinsky, and Kirk and Yeoman Janice Rand.
Unfortunately, the hypnotic scent of nearby carnivorous plants entrapped her and killed the guards. Figgs was rescued by Kirk, Spock and Rand, but not before the Hydra Epsilon III flytrap dissolved her hair and uniform. The experience mortified her at first, but Kirk and Rand reassured her that she would go on future missions once she'd taken time to reflect on the experience. (TOS - Strange New Worlds V short story: "Yeoman Figgs")
