In an alternate reality where the Section 31 artificial intelligence Control merged with the Borg, the Vovin class was a 25th century Solanae starship type, a tier 6-rated Obelisk carrier in Iconian Alliance service in the 2410s decade. In the year 2411, the Iconians shared this class with the Khitomer Alliance of the primary universe. (STO website: Unparalleled: The Vovin Obelisk Carrier!)

History and technical specifications[]

Vovin swarmers

The Obelisk swarmers of the Vovin.

The Vovin was an advanced version of the ancient Solanae Obelisk-class carrier acquired and deployed by the Khitomer Alliance members ahead of the war with the Iconian Empire. The Iconian technology gave the Alliance an edge during the Iconian War. In the neighboring dimension of the Iconian Alliance, the Vovin-class was a more advanced type of Obelisk carrier. The Iconians shared the design after the Khitomer Alliance and their Aetherian Concordium allies turned the tide in a pivotal battle against the Control Borg.

Typically for starships operated by the Iconians and their allies, a Vovin-class vessel was equipped with antiproton beam arrays and transphasic torpedo launchers. (STO website: Unparalleled: The Vovin Obelisk Carrier!)

In the case of the Vovin, it was armed with a dual antiproton beam bank, antiproton beam array and a transphasic torpedo launchers mounted at the fore, and a pair of antiproton beam array plus a transphasic torpedo launcher mounted aft. (STO - Unparalleled mission: "Welcome to Earth Spacedock")

This class was equipped with a impulse engines, warp core and a quantum slipstream drive, enabling it to reach impulse, warp, transwarp and quantum slipstream velocities. While cloaking was not an innate ability, a cloaking device could be installed. The hull was modular and could be modified at shipyards interfaces operated by New Romulus Shipyards, Klingon Defense Force Order of Builders and Starfleet Shipyards Operations at Alliance facilities across the Milky Way Galaxy. (STO - Unparalleled missions: "Explore the Flotilla", "The Hunt is On", "Welcome to Earth Spacedock")

Bridge officer stations allowed for a commander-ranked officer doubling as engineer and command officer, a commander of any department, a lieutenant commander pulling double duty as engineer and miracle worker, a tactical lieutenant and a science officer holding the rank of ensign. As a miracle worker ship it included subsystem targeting, and the inspiration ship mechanic. This carrier included a pair of hangar bays, which housed a 6-ship squadron of Obelisk swarmers. As an Alliance engineering carrier, a battle-hardened ship benefitted from quick deployment, armored hull, enhanced hull plating, advanced shield systems and the reconstructive conversion wave. The reconstructive conversion wave starship trait enabled a vessel to discharge a destructive antiproton wave in a 5 kilometer radius. The Iconian Alliance starship Vovin was the first ship equipped with the subspace fracture tunneling field. This technology was based on the principles of subspace travel by creating a subspace fracture. (STO website: Unparalleled: The Vovin Obelisk Carrier!)
