Vrunon was a non-corporeal entity which took the shape of a reptilian humanoid male on the planet Jodarr in the 23rd century.

History[]

Vrunon's species sent Vrunon as an unborn spore to Jodarr accompanied with orientation tapes detailing his background and mission. Unfortunately, a meteorite shower damaged Vrunon's ship, and it ejected him in an emergency capsule with only rudimentary data on basic science. Vrunon matured but did not know his background or purpose.

Being made of bio-energy, he assumed a comfortable form, that of a humanoid reptilian. As he aged, he thought his mission must be to improve the lives of the local inhabitants. Assuming a wizardly persona, he appeared as an old humanoid through a large crystal in the historic Shrine at Dafu. Vrunon provided guidance to Ledoy, allowing him to defeat competing warrior kings and unite the population. He next planned to introduce the printing press and electricity.

For several years, Vrunon had suffered from acute migraines. When he spoke privately to James T. Kirk, Spock and Montgomery Scott, they agreed to help him solve the mystery of his origins if he would help spare the life of Ledoy’s Kuderian Guardsman Rolano. Kirk thought that some form of radio energy was causing the headaches. Spock theorized that if no other cause was evident, then the energy must be coming from the remains of his spacecraft. He and Spock eventually located the ship intact, but underwater. Spock retrieved Vrunon’s missing tapes, which revealed that Vrunon was supposed to have used love as a motivator to help the populace. He’d been advising Ledoy to rule through fear. Migraines were a sign that he was violating his mission rules.

Vrunon visted Ledoy in person and told him everything he’d learned, encouraging the Emperor to rule through love. With the new data tapes, Vrunon planned to repair his ship and return home. (TOS comic: "Spore of the Devil")
