Vyntadi Expanse

Map depiction, 2374

The Vyntadi Expanse was a region of space, an expanse stretching over several light-years in or near sector 41741 and the Vyntadi sector block of the galaxy's Delta Quadrant. (ST reference: Star Charts, VOY episode: "Ashes to Ashes")

History and specifics[]

Size and location[]

The expanse lay circa 60,000 light-years from Sol. The extent of the Vyntadi Expanse included or lay near the Kobali system, the relay station Hirogen Relay Station, Sector 41741. It bordered or shared in space claimed by the Krenim Imperium, B'omar Sovereignty and Hirogen. (ST reference: Star Charts)

By the early 25th century, the Alpha Quadrant Alliance categorized the region as Alsuran sector, which was part of the larger Vyntadi sector block. (STO - Delta Quadrant mission: "Mindscape")

History[]

On stardate 51563, in 2374, Federation Starfleet officers of the starship USS Voyager Ensigns Lyndsay Ballard and Harry Kim conducted an away mission to a class M planet in the Vyntadi Expanse, where they had detected dilithium. The sensor readings turned out to be falsified and served as a lure for a Hirogen hunting party. Ensign Kim survived, but Ballard was fatally wounded in the hunter's attack. (VOY episode: "Ashes to Ashes")

With the return of the Federation - and the arrival of its allies - to this region of space in 2409, the Vyntadi Expanse became the namesake for the Vyntadi sector block. (STO video game: Delta Rising)
