The War Eagle-class dreadnought was a type of starship employed by the Romulan Star Empire in the year 2293.
Considered one of the most powerful starship classes in the Romulan fleet at the time, only the Imperial Hawk class battleships mounted greater firepower. They were also one of the first Romulan ship classes known to employ an artificially generated quantum singularity as the ship's main power source. With their advanced capabiliites and firepower, they were a common sight as fleet flagships since they were fewer in number compared to other Romulan starship designs.
Like most Romulan starships, the War Eagle suffered from poor warp capability and the ship's four warp nacelles were vulnerable to attack.
These ships are also believed to be the direct predecessor of the later D'deridex class warbirds. (TOS video game: Klingon Academy)
Starfleet Command (game)[]
The War Eagle–class was the first of the larger third generation Romulan warships. Klingon technology and design influence was obvious. The War Eagle is one of the most powerful dreadnoughts in the known galaxy. The Condor was refitted to the CON+ version, which provided even more power. The heaviest and final variant of the War Eagle was known as the Praetor-class. (Rihannsu: Fvillha)
In the Starfleet Battles boardgame, the War Eagle term is used for Romulan Warbirds (the 2260s era Bird of Prey ship) that are updated with phasers and Klingon warp pods. It used the same SSD (ship systems display) sheet as the Warbird with War Eagle systems boxes in gray to distinguish them from the Warbird.
