The Ware task force was a task force assembled by the Federation Starfleet after learning about the Ware threat in 2165.

History[]

After the USS Pioneer's encounter with the Ware in February of 2165, Captain Malcolm Reed reported it to Admiral Jonathan Archer and Admiral Hravishran th'Zoarhi. Both admirals agreed with Reed's assessment that the Ware is a possible threat to the Federation but didn't want to start a war by sending in a fleet. Instead, they put together a small task force mainly for information gathering.

Pioneer served as flagship under Reed's command and Admiral Shran assigned seven Andorian ships to support them: two Kumari-class battlecruisers, three Sevaijen-class light cruisers and two Ilthirin-class high-speed couriers.

In April, 2165, the task force departed Vulcan Space Central and Pioneer entered Ware space, while the rest of the task force waited outside the sector to avoid provoking a war by a too big show of force. In the following weeks, Pioneer visited many planets, such as Vanot and the Kyraw homeworld to learn more about the Ware. After a successful rescue operation on a Ware facility the Pioneer came under heavy attack, but the rest of the task force saved the Earth ship. After that, the task force operated together, carrying out strikes until the Starfleet force located and captured a Ware hub complex. In June, after a fierce battle to hold the station from Ware forces, they were able to use the facility to shut down the Ware in that region, but several ships in the task force suffered considerable damage. On Admiral Archer's order, once the repairs were completed, the task force were to continue its search for the Ware's origin. (ENT - Rise of the Federation novel: Uncertain Logic)

Ultimately, the task force came into conflict with the Klingon Defense Force when it invaded Partnership of Civilizations space in order to eradicate the Ware. The Federation vessels helped evacuate as many Partnership citizens as possible before retreating back to Federation space to avoid starting a war with the Klingon Empire. The USS Vol'Rala was lost with all hands during the Evacuation of Cotesc. (ENT - Rise of the Federation novel: Live by the Code)
