Warp bubble

Ambassador-class warp field.

A warp field is an asymmetrical field of subspace distortion that can be used to surround a starship, causing changes to the fabric of space within the field. A warp field could change the mass of matter within, allowing warp speed to be reached. It is generated by a ship's warp coils.

History and specifics[]

In the year 2375, the USS Hudson's plasma injector misfired, destabilizing the ship's warp field. The Hudson would then land on Bakrii for repairs. (TOS - Tales of the Dominion War short story: "Safe Harbors")
