Ewass

A panicked waul

A waul was a small, furry animal of feline ancestry native to the planet Moauv. The Moauvian Ambassador Oavid had a pet waul named Ewass.

Biology[]

A waul had long claws, brown fur, large yellow eyes, pink ears, and could purr quite loudly. It was about 18 inches tall and had been described as a cross between a bobcat and a furry lizard. Wauls reproduced sexually with litters of six to ten.

Wauls were telepathic. Humans, Moauvians and Vulcans could be overwhelmed by the emotional transmissions, whereas Caitians' natural empathy for felines calmed wauls. (TOS audiobook: Passage to Moauv)

History[]

In the year 2269, the USS Enterprise transported Ewass from Centaurus Base to Moauv. (TOS audiobook: Passage to Moauv)

In 2270, when considering the possibility of helping Lactrans capture a jawanda for the Lactra VII zoo, James T. Kirk recalled that the Enterprise had a lot of experience transporting live animals, citing wauls and tribbles as specific examples. (TAS - Log Eight novelization: The Eye of the Beholder)
