West Point is a community in the state of New York, located in the south east corner of the state, approximately 80 kilometers north of New York City.

West Point was established as a fort by the United States of America during the American Revolution. In 1802, under order of U.S. President Thomas Jefferson, the United States Military Academy was established, and became the main training ground for those seeking to be commissioned as officers in the United States Army, a role that it played for the next several hundred years. West Point was an elite post, and as such admission was highly selective and competitive.

By the mid 22nd century, West Point became the service academy for training the United Earth Military Assault Command Operations (MACO) officer candidates, including Major Joss Hayes. (ENT episode: "Hatchery")

Earth-Romulan War veteran Steven Mullen was also a graduate of West Point. (ST novel: Starfleet: Year One)
