Wheeler Stinson (born October 2355) was a member of Starfleet in the 24th century. In the early 2380s, Stinson held the rank of lieutenant commander and was the second officer of Deep Space 9. Stinson also commanded the USS Defiant when Captain Ro Laren did not.

Biography

Early life

At Starfleet Academy, Stinson excelled across all disciplines with stints in science, engineering and security and subsequently graduated third in his class. Stinson was later assigned to the USS Victoria Falls and the USS Viriya Parami. (ST - Typhon Pact novel: Raise the Dawn)

His father died when he was two and his mother died while he was at Starfleet Academy. (DS9 novel: Ascendance)

Deep Space 9

In 2383, Stinson was in command of the Defiant when it engaged hostile Typhon Pact forces. (ST - Typhon Pact novel: Plagues of Night)

Stinson came into conflict with Captain Sisko when Sisko took command of Defiant with orders from Starfleet Command to make contact with the Dominion and determine if the Typhon Pact had attempted to negotiate materials for their own quantum slipstream drive. Captain Sisko openly and blatantly challenged Stinson's negative behavior in pursuit of his duties of first office. Captain Sisko chose not to document the issue for formal disciplinary action if Stinson decided to put his resentment aside and perform his duties as a Starfleet officer. Captain Sisko had to remind Stinson of his expert knowledge of the Dominion, the Founders, the Jem'Hadar and his role as the Emissary of the Prophets. (ST - Typhon Pact novel: Raise the Dawn)
