The White Rabbit was a character created by Lewis Carroll in the 19th century. He appeared in the novel Alice's Adventures in Wonderland.

History[]

In the years 2267 and 2269 on the Amusement Park planet, when Leonard McCoy thought of Alice in Wonderland, trans-droid replicas of Alice and the White Rabbit appeared, with Alice chasing after the rabbit. All three of them shared a picnic together, along with a two-headed robot dragon, in 2269. (TOS episode & Star Trek 12 novelization: Shore Leave, TAS episode & Log Three novelization: Once Upon a Planet)

In 2277, archeologists on Varda III taunted Pavel Chekov by creating an illusion of the White Rabbit with a Vardan illusion machine. It hopped by his landing party, muttering, "I'm late!" (TOS - Plot-Your-Own Adventure Stories novella: Distress Call!)

In one of the novella's storylines, medic Narva Moktar also saw the rabbit, and noted that it was most likely an illusion drawn from his mind rather an a product of genetic engineering. In a different storyline, only Chekov saw the rabbit, followed by a dragon, making him wonder if he might be going mad.

Prior to 2285, within the hollowed-out core of Regula created through the use of Project Genesis, scientist Vance Madison used genetic engineering to create an animal he named after the White Rabbit, although it was apparently a carnivore. In response, Carol Marcus considered making an animal like the Mad Hatter. (TOS novelization: The Search for Spock)
