The Wilkerson-class was a type of Federation class IX destroyer starship in Starfleet service in the 23rd century, becoming active on reference stardate 2/1804.
History and specifications[]
The Wilkerson ships were a sought after assignment for crewpeople because of the spacious living conditions aboard, and the vessels' maneuverability and firepower gave them an important place in Starfleet Destroyer Command fleets. One early example of their tactical prowess were at the Solar Wind IV training exercise, where six Wilkerson-class ships were victorious against simulated Romulan attackers.
The vessels crewed 200 officers and men with room for 20 passengers. Additionally, the Wilkerson could carry 5,000 metric tons of cargo, rated at 100 SCU (standard cargo units). Unloaded, the vessel weighed 112,500 metric tons, measured 240 meters in length, 150 meters in width and 60 meters in height.
The Wilkerson-class's computer was of the M-3 type, and the vessel was loaded with 3 standard (6 person) personnel transporter platforms, 2 emergency 22-person transporter stages as well as one cargo transporter area.
The Wilkerson warp engines were FWF-2 type, rated to cruise at warp seven and max out at warp factor 9. Impulse engines were of the FIF-1 type. The Wilkerson had 4 FH-3 phaser emitters in two dual-mount phaser banks, with arcs of fire to fore as well as port and starboard. The vessel a single FP-1 launcher weapon, capable of firing photon torpedoes to fore and aft, and was defended by FSI model deflector shields.
By the later the 23rd century, the Wilkerson was still in production, contracted for a total 340 vessels, with 132 vessels having been built. Of those, 2 had been transferred to Starfleet Training Command and two were lost. These vessels were produced at Mars and Salazaar at a rate of about 26 per year. Ships commissioned[]
- Presumably, there would be a USS Wilkerson that was the prototype of this series, but the vessel has not been explicitly mentioned in any source.
