Wilkes was a member of Starfleet in the 24th century. In the 2380s, Wilkes held the rank of Lieutenant and was assigned to the USS New York.
In 2381, prior to engaging the Borg near Alonis, Benjamin Sisko ordered Wilkes to have all outer sections of the primary hull of the New York to be evacuated. (ST - Typhon Pact novel: Rough Beasts of Empire)
