Witten

Prefect Witten in 2287.

Witten was the Prefect of New Brinden in the 2280s.

History[]

In 2287, Witten accepted help from the Federation and Starfleet in finding a cure to a disease ravaging the low class of New Brinden. However, before the USS Enterprise-A's arrival, Witten had all the affected rounded up and put into compounds. After the Enterprise's CMO Doctor Leonard McCoy administered a cure to a man named Amzel, Witten informed Captain Kirk and his crew that Amzel had died. Despite Dr. McCoy's assurances that a cure could be found, Witten told that he would start his contingency plan to kill the affected people.

Witten, after hearing the price of the bounty on Capt. Kirk being offered by the Klingons and the Nasgul, demanded that he turn himself over to him or he would kill all the afflicted people and allow the Federation to continue work on the cure. He gave Capt. Kirk twelve hours to decide. After Witten went to bed, he was secretly injected with the disease by Enterprise security officer Ensign Fouton as he slept. When he woke up, Witten had the symptoms of the disease and asked Capt. Kirk to save him. (TOS - Death Before Dishonor comics: "Fast Friends", "Cure All")

Following his encounter with Capt. Kirk, Witten had his doctors check himself and found out that someone had injected him with the disease. Witten was then asked by the Salla Vlagro to testify against Capt. Kirk at his trial. He accused Kirk of injecting him with the disease. (TOS - The Trial of James T. Kirk comic: "... Let's Kill All the Lawyers!")
