The Woden or SS Woden was an Antares-class freighter in Federation service in the 2260s.

History[]

By 2268, the Woden had been converted to automation and ferried ore.

In 2268, the Woden was targeted and destroyed near Alpha Carinae II by phasers fired by the M-5 computer as it was controlling the starship USS Enterprise during war game tests. M-5 misinterpreted the freighter as a threatening vessel. (TOS episode & Star Trek 9 novelization: The Ultimate Computer)

It was named for Woden, a mythical Norse god. The vessel was an Antares-class ship in the remastered edition, but in the original episode looked like a DY-100-class. FASA RPG module: Trader Captains and Merchant Princes, 2nd edition identified Woden as one of 1,273 DY-100-like Zeus-class robot freighters with registry NCC-B39068. ST reference: Star Trek Maps identified the SS Woden as a DY-500-class freighter with registry DY-504.
