Wooten was a 23rd century Starfleet ensign who served as a relief communications officer aboard the USS Constitution in the late 2250s.

In 2257, Wooten relieved Lieutenant Borrik at the communications station on the bridge as Borrik was assigned to boarding party who transported over to the N'shaii mothership. He remained at his post throughout the battle with the N'shaii, despite suffering minor injuries during the heaviest barrage from the muon weapon.

In his after action report to Captain Augenthaler, Lieutenant James T. Kirk gave credit to Wooten and the rest of the bridge crew for their actions during the battle with the N'shaii. (TOS - My Brother's Keeper novel: Constitution)
