Wright flyer

The Wright Flyer.

The Wright Flyer was a vehicle, an airplane that marked the technological milestone of Humanity's first mechanized, controlled heavier-than-air flight in the early 20th century.

History and specifics[]

On 17 December, 1903, brothers Orville Wright and Wilbur Wright launched the Wright Flyer from Kill Devil Hill near Kitty Hawk in the Outer Banks of North Carolina in North America. (ENT episode & novelization: Shockwave, TLE novel: Serpents Among the Ruins)

Legacy[]

Daniels was fascinated with the history of flight when he was a child, including the Wright brothers' flight. In 2152, he shared that interest with Captain Jonathan Archer. (ENT episode & novelization: Shockwave)

In 2155, Charles Tucker III believed that if the Wright brothers had given up on powered flight, it would have been invented by someone else early in the 20th century. (ENT novel: Kobayashi Maru)

An image of the Wright Flyer was among the information taken from the Federation starship USS Enterprise's library computer by the Talosians in the year 2254. (TOS episode: "The Cage")

In the late 23rd century, Hikaru Sulu shared inspirational messages about the Wright Brothers' flight with his daughter, Demora Sulu, who was at Starfleet Academy. Other messages were about manned landings on Luna and Mars, and Zefram Cochrane's warp flight. (TLE novel: Serpents Among the Ruins)
