XJ340 was a star system located within Federation space in the galaxy's Alpha or Beta Quadrants.
History and specifics[]
The XJ340 system's orbit was the site of at least one inhabited planet. It was located not far from Campbell's World.
In the 23rd century, young Andy Kinderman and his parents moved out to a planet in system XJ340 from their previous residence, a Victorian house not far from the Kirk family farm in Iowa on Earth. In the year 2273, Abner Kirk recalled the family having moved there while reminiscing with his nephew, Rear Admiral James T. Kirk.
Early in the year 2273, while serving in Starfleet, Kinderman arranged a transfer to the communications array outpost Epsilon 9 so that he could be stationed within a shuttle ride's distance to his aging parents. (TOS eBook: Shadow of the Machine)
