Map of Asia.

Xanadu was a 13th century Earth city in Asia, an early Mongolian capital city. It was later immortalized as a beautiful, mythical city in the famous poem "Kubla Khan" by Samuel Taylor Coleridge.

History[]

It was located in Outer Mongolia. In 1279, China was ruled from Xanadu. (TNG episode: "Code of Honor")

Legacy[]

In 2152, while fleeing from rebels in a desert on the Torothan homeworld, Jonathan Archer kept an exhausted Charles Tucker III's mind active with a geography naming game. Archer cited Xanadu, but Tucker said it wasn't a real location. (ENT episode: "Desert Crossing")

In 2371, B'Elanna Torres was reminded of Xanadu when she saw a massive diffuser grid built by the Furies. Kathryn Janeway thought of Coleridge's description of Xanadu as she, Tuvok and Neelix were taken to a Fury prison. (VOY - Invasion! novel: The Final Fury)

In 2374, Jean-Luc Picard envisioned Xanadu and the mythical Sha Ka Ree as he wondered what a visit to the Q Continuum would be like. Q asked if Picard expected to see Shangri-La. (TNG - The Q Continuum novel: Q-Space)
