The Yeager class,[3] also known as Federation light cruiser (Intrepid-variant),[1] was a 24th century Federation starship type, a light cruiser[1] in Starfleet service in the 2370s decade. (DS9 episode: "Sacrifice of Angels")
History and specifications[]
This type of light cruiser starship was in service to Starfleet during the late 24th century, and bore a resemblance to the Intrepid-class cruisers that were in service around the same time. (DS9 reference: Star Trek: Deep Space Nine Technical Manual)
Physically, the saucer section and warp nacelles were taken from Intrepid-class science vessels, while the secondary hull was derived from enlarged Condor-class raiders. The Yeager class was neither as fast nor as well armed as a baseline Intrepid. An aeroshuttle was docked at the underside of the saucer section. (The Official Starships Collection Issue 122: "USS Yeager")
These variant ships were 402.11 meters in length, 195.64 meters in width and 58.69 meters tall. This type of light cruiser massed 550,000 metric tons and was normally staffed by 204 officers and crew. With a 1,500+ cochrane unit warp core feeding two warp nacelles and two impulse engine modules, these vessels could maintain a maximum speed of warp 9.55 for 12 hours. Armament on these ships included 7 Type-VIII phaser emitters and 1 photon torpedo launcher, with defenses of standard deflector shields.
Ships of this type were constructed from surplus equipment at the ASDB Integration Facility at Utopia Planitia Fleet Yards in the Sol system, and several were in operation by the mid-2370s decade. (DS9 reference: Star Trek: Deep Space Nine Technical Manual)
One such ship, the USS Yeager, saw extensive action during the Dominion War, participating in the operation to regain control of Deep Space 9 from Dominion forces in 2374, and then serving as part of DS9's defense force for the remainder of the war. (DS9 episode: "Sacrifice of Angels")
