"Yeoman Figgs" is a short story published in the anthology Strange New Worlds V. It was written by Mark Murata and focuses on a young crewmember's first mission aboard the USS Enterprise.

Summary[]
Vonda Figgs, a new yeoman on the Enterprise, is assigned to a landing party making a first survey of the planet Hydra Epsilon III. Exploring with security guard Rojas, she is lured by a carnivorous plant that draws in its prey by generating hunger in them. The plants kill Rojas and another security guard but Figgs is saved by Kirk, Spock and Rand and recovers aboard the Enterprise.
