The Yggdrasil was a Federation starship, a transport in civilian service in the 2270s decade. (TOS novel: The Higher Frontier)

History[]

In 2279, the Yggdrasil was part of Admiral James T. Kirk's task force, established to relocate the New Humans to the Medusan Complex and out of reach of the genocidal Naazh.

In that year, the Yggdrasil transported the New Human enclave from Deneb Kaitos IV to Medusan space. Kirk asked the Yggdrasil to remain at Deneb IV until the USS Asimov arrived to escort but the New Humans believed they would be safer during transit.

During transit, a Naazh starship attacked the Yggdrasil. The Asimov rushed towards the side of the battle but arrived after the civilian transport detonated from a warp core breach. The passengers vacated the doomed vessel in escape pods but the Naazh attackers moved from pod to pod to kill the survivors. The Asimov rescued the remaining survivors from the last six pods and delivered them to the planet Ceto in the Medusan Complex. (TOS novel: The Higher Frontier)

Background[]

The vessel may be named for the w:Yggdrasil tree from Norse mythology.
