- This character is a member of Spock's family.
Zarabeth was an inhabitant of the planet Sarpeidon.
History
She was exiled to her planet's past because members of her family tried to kill the tyrannical leader of her planet, Zor-Khan. She was transported to a barren Ice Age by use of the atavachron and lived out her life there.
In 2269, Spock and Dr. Leonard McCoy of the USS Enterprise were transported to this era by Atoz, the keeper of the atavachron. As soon as he arrived, Spock began to experience the intense emotions that the Vulcans of this period experienced, and soon after Zarabeth and Spock fell in love. After having a brief romance in which their son, Zar, was conceived, Spock and McCoy eventually found the portal which allowed them to return to the future. (TOS episode & Star Trek 4 novelization: All Our Yesterdays)
A few months after Spock and McCoy departed, Zar was born, and Zarabeth began the process of bringing up her son alone. Despite the cavemen-like conditions they lived in, Zarabeth taught her son to be civilized, as well as teaching him to hunt for food. Unfortunately, Zarabeth died 17 years after Spock's departure after falling into a crevasse. Because she wanted to be cremated, Zar preserved her body in ice until his father arrived 3 years later, when he vaporized her with his phaser. (TOS - The Yesterday Saga novel: Yesterday's Son)
