Zhuik are an arthropod humanoid race evolved from insects similar to terrestrial bees.
History and specifics[]
They are warm-blooded, and their blood is copper-based. Clearly not mammalian, some have green skin, hexagonal exoskeletal plates on their torsos, concentric chitinous ridges around their earholes, green tongues, horseshoes of chitin plates instead of teeth, and blue hair. A Zhuik’s wiry antennae detect electrical fields and indicate emotion. Female Zhuik comprise the entire functional society, as male Zhuik are drones: small, short-lived, and barely as intelligent as a tree shrew. Famously polite, Zhuik are nonetheless culturally compelled to destroy mutation within their own kind on sight. (TNG novel: Debtors' Planet)
- "Zhuk" is the Russian word for beetle.
