Zirconium (symbol Zr) is a chemical element, a metal with atomic number 40 on the periodic table.

The USS Zirconium Star, a 23rd century transport ship, honored the element.

Characteristics and history[]

Trace amounts of zirconium reside in carbonatite, a substance resembling marble. (TOS novel: Unspoken Truth)

In 1789, the element was first discovered in Germany. (ST reference: Star Fleet Medical Reference Manual)

In 2269, zirconium's atomic mass was the answer to a question in a deadly illusory quiz between Spock and an Irapina on the planet Anomaly. (TOS novel: Planet of Judgment)
