Background[]
The Yorktown is the only ship in licensed sources, to date, to be identified as a Zodiac-class vessel. The class designation itself comes from The Star Trek Encyclopedia and does not appear in TNG episode: "All Good Things...".
Apocrypha[]
A ship description was mentioned in several supplements to the Last Unicorn Games role-playing games released following the loss of their Star Trek license, which refers to this class of starship being a type of cruiser which entered service in 2365.
Two additional Zodiac-class vessels are also listed in addition to the Yorktown: the prototype USS Zodiac, the USS Sagittarius (NCC-71276), the USS Scorpio (NCC-71275) and the USS Libra (NCC-71274). The entry on the Sagittarius indicated that engaged the Tholians during the Draconis IX Perimeter Action in 2371 and went on to destroy five Cardassian and Dominion warships during the battle to defend Vulcan in 2374.

- ↑ The sole appearance of the Zodiac in TNG novel: Death in Winter does not indicate that she belongs to this class. However, common sense indicates that she would be the prototype considering the dates that this class was in operation.
