Zoran Si Verdin was a Thallonian man in the 24th century. He was a member of the noble class, and thus very close to the young Prince Si Cwan.
Biography[]
Along with Rojam and Juif, Zoran was once an inseparable friend of Lord Si Cwan.
In their youths, Zoran and Si Cwan were close friends, as well as sparring partners. However, in their teenage years, Si Cwan began to exhibit behavior that concerned his father, who charged Zoran with watching the young prince, and to report his observations back to the emperor. When Si Cwan realized Zoran's duplicity, it marked the end of their friendship. (NF - No Limits short story: "Turning Point")
Zoran came to hate Si Cwan for distancing himself from the Thallonian Empire's decadent royal court. Zoran's hatred for Si Cwan's morality eventually bordered on insanity.
In the year 2373, Zoran was one of the conspirators who helped eradicate the Thallonian royal family, taking advantage of the decline of the Empire caused by the gradual breakup of the homeworld. He also kidnapped the Princess Kalinda, who he brought to the planet Montos and in hopes she would help him to find the legendary Quiet Place. Upon learning Si Cwan survived the coup, Zoran lured him into a trap by falsely placing Kalinda's name on the passenger list of a refugee ship. Zoran collaborated with Ryjaan, D'ndai and Yoz in an attempt to murder Si Cwan, and also targeted a benefactor of Si Cwan, Xenexian Starfleet Captain Mackenzie Calhoun, who had allowed Si Cwan to join the crew of the USS Excalibur. These conspirators believed Excalibur might interfere with their plan to forge a coalition of Thallon, Danter and Xenex that might ascend to rival the Federation.
On stardate 50926.1, Zoran sent a false distress call to lure Captain Calhoun to rescue a spacecraft named Kayven Ryin. The runabout Marquand, with Zak Kebron and Si Cwan aboard, responded, and Zoran opened fire. The Marquand was destroyed, but Kebron and Si Cwan escaped to the Kayven Ryin by transporter. Si Cwan and Zoran, struggled, and Zoran boarded an escape pod, leaving a thermite bomb to destroy the Kayven Ryin. Mackenzie Calhoun's brother, D'ndai, was able to rescue Kebron and Si Cwan at the last minute. (NF novels: Into the Void, The Two-Front War, End Game)
