Glommer

A glommer.

The glommer (or ghIlo'meH) was a Klingon creation, a genetically engineered lifeform designed to eat tribbles. This attempt of gene manipulation was the work of Nej. (TOS novel: Excelsior: Forged in Fire, tlhIngan Hol reference: How to Speak Klingon)

History and specifics[]

The average size of a glommer was 50 centimeters. It could eat up to three tribbles per minute. (Heritage Models RPG module: Adventure Gaming in the Final Frontier)

Doctor Leonard McCoy noted that "At least it's neat." when feeding on tribbles. Cyrano Jones used glommers to reduce the tribble population aboard Deep Space Station K-7, as he was required to clean up all such creatures. He brought some glommers aboard the Enterprise to keep control of his genetically engineered tribbles, but they could do nothing about the massive tribbles that were created from eating a large amount of food. (TAS episode & Log Four novelization: More Tribbles, More Troubles)

Jones had acquired the glommer after a Federation Review Board granted him a short leave from K-7. He let the animal be studied by Federation science teams, and samples taken for cloning, before he headed back to K-7. (FASA RPG module: Trader Captains and Merchant Princes (2nd edition))

Jones was forced to surrender the glommer to Koloth, as it was the only variant to survive, and had been stolen. (TAS episode & Log Four novelization: More Tribbles, More Troubles, FASA RPG modules: Trader Captains and Merchant Princes (2nd edition), Spacelanes: The Magazine of Interstellar Trade)

In 2373, Julian Bashir suggested that the crew of Deep Space 9 use glommers to eradicate tribbles from Deep Space 9. (DS9 - Strange New Worlds 9 short story: "The Tribbles' Pagh")

Alternate reality[]

In 2259 of the Kelvin timeline, Glommers lived on Iota Geminorum IV, consuming the tribbles living there.(TOS - The Truth About Tribbles comic: "Part 1")
